Peregraf- French President Emmanuel Macron is set to visit Iraq and the Kurdistan Region in December. The announcement was made during a meeting on Monday between Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and the French Ambassador to Iraq, Patrick Durel.
In a press release from the Prime Minister’s office, Barzani reaffirmed the KRG’s commitment to strengthening ties with the Federal Government of Iraq, stressing the importance of respecting the Kurdistan Region’s constitutional rights and ensuring its fair share of the federal budget.
He also voiced hope that the recent agreement on the export of the Kurdistan Region’s oil would pave the way for resolving outstanding disputes between Erbil and Baghdad.
Ambassador Durel praised the KRG’s reform programs and its focus on environmental protection, noting that President Macron’s visit would provide an opportunity to further enhance bilateral relations.
