Peregraf- The Ministry of Finance announced today that all 60 properties of Chaviland, which had been seized in lieu of unpaid debts, were sold in a public auction.
The seized assets-including land plots, hotels, cafeterias, and tourist cabins-were previously declared by the ministry to be auctioned in order to recover debts owed to the Ministry of Finance and Economy. According to officials, the companies involved, Nalia and Chavy, owe around 92 billion dinars.
The ministry stated that the debts of Nalia and Chavy—formerly associated with Shaswar Abdulwahid, the imprisoned leader of the New Generation Movement—are part of a long-standing legal case. The loans date back to 2010 and 2011 with a repayment period of two years, but despite repeated notifications, the companies failed to repay the loans and accrued interest.
Abdulwahid, who later entered politics and founded the New Generation Movement, has denied any current ties to the companies, insisting that he sold them before beginning his political career.
