KRG Says It Has Fulfilled Commitments on Oil Export Deal, Awaits Federal Response as SOMO Must Resume Exports

The Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Ministry of Natural Resources announced that it has met all commitments required for the resumption of oil exports from the Kurdistan Region, in coordination with the Federal Ministry of Oil.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the ministry said it has signed agreements with all domestic and international companies involved in the oil sector, except for one foreign company that has yet to sign. It stressed, however, that this does not affect the trilateral agreement between the KRG Ministry of Natural Resources, the companies, and the Federal Ministry of Oil.
The ministry added that on September 23, 2025, both the KRG and the oil companies sent their written approvals to the Federal Ministry of Oil. “We are now awaiting a response from the Federal Ministry of Oil to sign the agreement, so that SOMO can resume exporting the region’s oil and implement the terms of the agreement as soon as possible,” the statement read.
The agreement, once finalized, is expected to pave the way for restarting crude exports from the Kurdistan Region through the Iraq–Türkiye pipeline, which have been halted since March 2023 following an international arbitration ruling.
The ministry reaffirmed its adherence to the decisions of the KRG Council of Ministers and underscored its commitment to reaching a comprehensive solution that serves the interests of all parties involved.
