The Iraqi Ministry of Interior announced the arrest of two international drug traffickers in Saudi Arabia with 142 kilograms of liquid crystal meth, following intelligence provided by the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) General Directorate of Anti-Narcotics in Sulaymaniyah (Asayish).
Interior Ministry spokesperson Abbas Bahadli said the arrests took place in Medina under the direct supervision of Iraq’s Interior Minister and in close coordination with Saudi Arabia’s General Directorate of Counter-Narcotics.
“Based on precise information from Sulaymaniyah’s anti-drug directorate, Saudi security forces arrested two traffickers and seized 142 kilograms of liquid crystals hidden inside their vehicles,” Bahadli said.
The narcotics, valued at $1.27 million, were being smuggled by two men from Salahaddin province who own a Hajj and Umrah company. Authorities say they have been active in drug trafficking between Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and several Gulf states for nearly six years.
Saudi authorities have formally requested a representative from the Sulaymaniyah anti-drug directorate to join their investigations, which are expected to uncover further smuggling networks.
