The security situation in Sulaymaniyah remains tense following the deployment of large numbers of security forces across the city. Authorities have issued an arrest warrant for Lahur Sheikh Jangi, the former co-president of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and the current leader of the People's Front party.

A source from Jangi’s office accused the PUK leadership of attempting to use the courts to stage “a scenario similar to previous ones,” claiming that the move is aimed at framing him. “The PUK leader wants to accuse Lahur Sheikh Jangi,” the source said, adding that they expect the warrant to be renewed.

Following a power struggle within the PUK, Lahur Sheikh Jangi was ousted from his position as co-chair and later expelled from the party. He has since founded the People's Front, a new political party. In the Kurdistan parliamentary elections held on October 20, 2024, Jangi's People's Front party secured two seats. More than nine months after the election, the major parties remain in a deadlock over the formation of a new government cabinet.
