Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid met Wednesday with Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani to discuss national priorities, with a strong focus on the upcoming parliamentary elections and financial matters with the Kurdistan Region, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Media Office.
The two leaders stressed the importance of holding the November 11 elections on schedule, emphasizing that government resources—both human and material—must not be used for campaign purposes. They underscored that public positions must not be exploited to influence voters, calling for measures to ensure election integrity, rebuild public trust in the democratic process, and encourage broad participation.
The meeting also addressed the administrative and financial issues between Baghdad and Erbil, with both sides reaffirming the need to pursue solutions within constitutional and legal frameworks that uphold social justice and promote sustainable development.
Additionally, the discussions covered national sovereignty and the importance of coordinated action to confront security threats. The leaders reviewed mechanisms for cooperation between the three presidencies to improve governance and the delivery of services to citizens. They called for unity among political forces and prioritizing Iraq’s national interest above all else.
