Former Iraqi Prime Minister and head of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri al-al-Maliki, was hospitalized in Baghdad after reportedly suffering a heart attack, according to an informed source.
A senior Kurdish official, who spoke to individuals close to al-Maliki, told Peregraf that the former premier underwent surgery and had “his heart tubes opened.” The source added that his condition is currently improving.
While al-Maliki’s office confirmed he visited the hospital on Monday, it downplayed the situation, stating that the visit was only for routine check-ups as part of ongoing medical monitoring.
al-Maliki, 75, served as Iraq’s prime minister from 2006 to 2014 and remains an influential figure in the country’s political landscape.
