The Ministry of Finance and Economy of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) announced on Thursday, July 24, 2025, that the salaries for May have officially arrived and will be distributed starting Friday, July 25.

According to the ministry, Baghdad has deposited 974,813,000,000 Iraqi dinars into the KRG’s bank account to cover the salaries of public sector employees and salaried workers for the month of May. The announcement brings some relief to civil servants who have been waiting for their overdue payments.

This payment follows the KRG’s announcement on July 22 that it had transferred 120 billion dinars in non-oil revenues for May to the account of the Iraqi Federal Ministry of Finance. The transfer is part of a broader financial and oil agreement with Baghdad aimed at resolving the Region’s salary crisis.

Under the agreement, the KRG must deliver 230,000 barrels of oil per day and transfer 120 billion dinars in monthly internal revenues to Baghdad. In return, the federal government is expected to release the salaries of public sector employees in the Kurdistan Region.

Despite the KRG meeting its obligations, including the non-oil revenue transfer, salary payments had remained delayed, with workers yet to receive their pay for May and June—sparking growing frustration and economic pressure across the Region.

With May’s salary now secured and distribution set to begin on Friday, attention turns to the unresolved June payments and whether the federal government will maintain consistency in honoring the agreement in the coming months.
