The Iraqi Ruling Shiite Coordination Framework, in a meeting held today, strongly condemned the drone attacks targeting oil companies and energy infrastructure in the Kurdistan Region. The group described the bombings as a “blatant assault on national wealth and public interests” and warned that such attacks undermine Iraq’s stability and investment climate.

The Framework urged the federal government to take decisive action to identify and hold accountable those behind the attacks and prevent further escalation.

Since June 30, over ten drone-related attacks have been reported across Erbil, Duhok, Sulaymaniyah, and Zakho, primarily targeting oil fields and energy facilities.

• Government Investigation Findings:

A high-level Iraqi investigation, ordered by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani and released on July 18, confirmed the drones were manufactured abroad but launched from within Iraq. The investigation revealed:

• Identified launch sites inside Iraqi territory.

• Technical analysis linking attacks to specific coordination networks.

• Evidence of warhead-equipped drones used in the operations.

• Iraqi military vowed legal measures, calling the strikes a violation of sovereignty.

Kurdistan Interior Minister Rebar Ahmad denounced the attacks as “terrorist acts targeting the Region’s economic nerve.” While he dismissed the need for a new investigation, Ahmad confirmed coordination with Baghdad and international forces to safeguard critical infrastructure. He stopped short of naming the perpetrators but pointed to previously identified elements within the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF).

The Framework also expressed sorrow over the deadly fire in Wasit Governorate, demanding a full investigation and accountability amid growing concerns over the rising number of similar incidents in recent months.
