Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani has warned that the recent Israeli attacks on Iran pose a "direct threat" to Iraq’s security and regional stability, as the missile war between Israel and Iran entered its third consecutive day.

During a meeting in Baghdad on Sunday with the European Union Ambassador to Iraq, Thomas Seiler, al-Sudani expressed deep concern over the escalating conflict. "The recent Zionist aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran represents a direct threat to security and stability in Iraq and the region," he said, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office. "It is clearly intended to obstruct diplomatic efforts and violates international legal norms."

Al-Sudani urged major global powers—and the European Union in particular—to take urgent action to halt hostilities and restore calm in the region. He reiterated Iraq’s firm opposition to any violations of its airspace and emphasized that Baghdad has consistently prioritized the interests of its people by avoiding regional entanglements.

"The root cause of the current tensions is the ongoing genocidal war against the Palestinian people," al-Sudani stated, reaffirming Iraq’s solidarity with the Palestinians.

The remarks come as Israel and Iran continue to exchange missile and drone strikes across multiple fronts, with at least three Iranian cities reportedly targeted overnight and new Israeli air defense activity reported in Tel Aviv and Haifa. Regional air traffic remains heavily disrupted, with closures of airports in Tehran, Erbil, and parts of southern Turkey still in effect due to safety concerns.

Tensions remain high, and regional leaders warn that further escalation could spiral into a broader conflict drawing in multiple states.
