The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has confirmed three new cases of HIV in the region, all detected among foreign workers at women’s salons in Erbil.
The cases were identified through routine health screenings conducted by the Public Health Laboratory, part of the licensing process for employees in public establishments.
“All three individuals were foreign nationals working in various hair salons across the city,” the KRG Health Ministry said in a statement. Authorities have taken “necessary measures” and are coordinating with relevant departments to manage the situation.
The ministry urged residents to patronize only licensed businesses and to verify health permits before using services. “To protect public health, we encourage citizens to report unlicensed or suspicious establishments via official hotlines or complaint channels,” the statement added.
While officials have not named the specific salons or disclosed the patients’ current conditions, they assured the public that monitoring and preventive measures are underway to curb further transmission.
