The Kurdistan Region has confirmed its first case of Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF), according to an official statement issued by the Ministry of Health.

Dr. Sarkar Surchi, spokesperson for the ministry, stated that the case was confirmed after monitoring a suspected patient over the past two days. The patient is a 42-year-old butcher from the town of Koya. He is currently being treated at a hospital in Erbil, and his condition is reported to be stable.

This development follows a surge in CCHF cases in other parts of Iraq, including Kirkuk, where several infections and fatalities have been recorded.

The Ministry of Health has called on citizens to adhere to its health guidelines, especially those in contact with livestock or animal products. Individuals experiencing symptoms are urged to seek medical attention immediately, and veterinary teams should be informed of any signs of illness in animals.

“We ask citizens to follow the guidelines of the Ministry of Health. I wish you all safety,” said Dr. Surchi.
