The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) today launched its second party forum in Sulaymaniyah, a two-day event aimed at gathering members' views and initiating reforms within the party. The forum is being held under the supervision of Qubad Talabani, member of the PUK Politburo and Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).

In his opening remarks, Talabani emphasized the importance of internal dialogue and reform. "We have fulfilled some of our election promises, one of which was to end the Authoritarianism" he said. "Another of our promises was to correct the course of governance, so now the PUK has entered talks to form a government."

While Talabani noted that "there are no problems at the top level," he acknowledged "some problems at the bottom level" within the party.

He stressed that the forum is an opportunity for critical reflection and planning. "Throughout this forum, we aim to review and deliberate on all the recommendations and proposals we have received in order to revitalise the party and chart a clear path for the next phase," he said. "The PUK is a strong political force, and by convening this forum, we are demonstrating that it remains both strong and united."

Talabani concluded by encouraging active participation from party members. "We want to hear from our cadres—on every matter, in every discussion. I encourage all participants to engage fully in the committee work and to share their ideas and perspectives openly," he said.

The forum is expected to produce a number of structural and policy recommendations aimed at renewing the party’s vision and operations.
