Fire Destroys Parts of Dara Sutawaka Bazaar in Sulaymaniyah, No Casualties Reported

A large fire broke out early this morning at the Dara Sutawaka Bazaar (Market) in Sulaymaniyah, engulfing tens of shops and causing heavy property damage. The blaze, which raged for several hours, was eventually brought under control by firefighting teams. No casualties were reported.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but initial suspicions point to an electrical short circuit.

Sulaymaniyah Governor Haval Abubakr, who visited the scene, said: “This morning, a fire broke out in some of the markets and shops, and was controlled without any casualties.”

He added that relevant authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident. The extent of the financial losses has not yet been officially assessed.
