The Democratic Union Party (PYD) and The Kurdish National Council in Syria (KNCS) convened a high-level meeting with the participation of a U.S. representative and Mazlum Abdi, the Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). After the meeting, Mazlum Abdi praised the constructive dialogue, stating, "The positions of both parties are commendable and reflect a shared commitment to the Kurdish cause."

The discussions centered on achieving unity among Kurdish factions and aligning their political stances to address the challenges facing Kurds in Syria. The meeting underscored the importance of a unified Kurdish front to secure their rights and representation in the future of Syria.

Following the meeting, the General Commander of the SDF took to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to reaffirm the commitment to a diverse and democratic Syria. He stated, "We are steadfast in our pursuit of a Syria where the rights of all ethnic and religious components are guaranteed. The continuation of dialogue is essential to achieving this goal."

The meeting occurred against the backdrop of a recently signed agreement between Mazlum Abdi and Ahmed al-Sharaa, the interim President of Syria. The agreement addresses the rights of the Kurds and the role of the SDF in North and East Syria. However, despite these developments, Kurdish unity remains elusive, with internal divisions often cited as a significant barrier to achieving their collective goals.

In a recent message to Kurdish parties in Syria, Mazlum Abdi emphasized the urgency of unity, stating, "Today, the National Unity of the Kurds in Syria is not just a political aspiration but a historical necessity. It is the only way to respond effectively to the challenges of this critical phase."

The General Commander of the SDF echoed this sentiment, expressing hope that all Kurdish parties would prioritize national interests over partisan agendas. "We urge all Kurdish factions to engage positively in dialogue and work towards a unified stance that reflects the aspirations of the Kurdish people," he added.

Mazlum Abdi further called on all Kurdish political entities to collaborate in building a common platform for dialogue with the new Syrian authority. He emphasized the importance of Kurdish participation in shaping the future of a democratic, pluralistic, and inclusive Syria.

The meeting marks a significant step towards bridging the gap between Kurdish factions, but challenges remain. The lack of unity continues to hinder progress, and the international community, including the United States, has expressed support for efforts to consolidate Kurdish political efforts.

As pressures for unity intensify, the Kurdish parties face a critical juncture. Their ability to overcome internal divisions and present a united front will determine their role in the future of Syria and their success in securing their rights within a democratic framework.
