In a formal address, Masoud Barzani, leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), inaugurated the party's campaign for the upcoming Kurdistan parliamentary elections in Erbil, asserting that they are poised for a "significant victory."

During his opening remarks, Barzani emphasized the importance of widespread participation from party members and supporters in the elections scheduled for October 20. He urged them to avoid violence and inflammatory rhetoric throughout the campaign.

"We are gearing up for October 20, and we will secure a significant victory. Do not engage in divisive conflicts; safeguard your influence and that of your party," Barzani stated.

In another segment of his address, the KDP leader expressed his aspirations for the next parliament, stating, "I hope it will restore the dignity and integrity of the legislative body, serving as a protective barrier for the region and thwarting any destructive agendas."

"Following October 20, we will establish one region, one government, one parliament, and one Peshmerga force, thereby putting an end to all unlawful activities," Barzani declared.

He also committed to implementing reforms post-elections, stating, "I assure you that after the elections, we will endeavor to reform ourselves before urging others to do the same." He encouraged voters to participate actively and to maintain their dignity.

The election campaign commenced today and will run until October 15, 2024, with the election itself taking place on October 20, 2024, following several delays attributed to disputes between the PUK and KDP.

A total of 2,898,578 voters are eligible to cast their ballots on October 20 to fill the 100 seats in the Kurdistan parliament.

The new parliamentary term will allocate at least 30 seats for women and five seats for minority communities, including three seats for Christians and two for Turkmen.

The elections will occur across four constituencies, with the five community seats distributed among three provinces: three seats in Erbil, Sulaymaniyah, and Duhok for the Christian community, and two seats in Erbil and Sulaymaniyah for the Turkmen community.

The allocation of parliamentary seats among the provinces is as follows: Erbil province is assigned 34 seats, with two designated for communities; Sulaymaniyah province has 38 seats, also with two reserved for communities; Duhok province is allocated 25 seats, which includes one for communities; and Halabja province has a total of three seats.
