Peregraf — The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad said on Sunday that American and Iraqi officials convened the fifth session of the U.S.-Iraq High Joint Coordination Committee, focusing on efforts to prevent attacks against U.S. diplomatic facilities and personnel.

In a statement released Sunday, the embassy said the meeting addressed cooperation on countering threats and other security matters of mutual concern, amid heightened tensions following recent attacks.

Washington also pointed to the April 8 drone ambush targeting U.S. diplomats near Baghdad International Airport, stressing the importance of accountability.

"We appreciate the Government of Iraq's commitment to promptly investigate and hold accountable the perpetrators," the embassy said, adding that the United States is awaiting the results of the investigation.

The statement underscores ongoing coordination between Baghdad and Washington on security matters, as U.S. officials continue to press for stronger protections for diplomatic missions and personnel in Iraq.

In a separate statement published on April 9, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau summoned Iraqi Ambassador Nazar Al-Khairallah to deliver Washington's strong condemnation of what it described as attacks by Iran-aligned armed groups, calling on the Iraqi government to take immediate action to dismantle such groups.
