KRG Says Drones Downed as 'Terrorists and Outlaws' Continue Attacks Despite Ceasefire
Peregraf — The Kurdistan Regional Government’s Ministry of Interior said a series of drone attacks targeted multiple locations across the Kurdistan Region late Thursday night, warning that “terrorists and outlaws” continue to undermine stability despite an existing ceasefire.
In a statement, the ministry said the attacks occurred at different times on April 9, adding that all drones involved were successfully intercepted and destroyed. No casualties or material damage were reported.
The attacks come just one day after a major diplomatic breakthrough between Washington and Tehran, which announced a two-week ceasefire on April 8, marking the 40th day of the war.
According to data compiled by Peregraf Media, more than 650 drones and missiles have targeted sites across the Kurdistan Region since the outbreak of hostilities. The attacks have been attributed either to Iranian forces or to armed groups operating under the banner of the Islamic Resistance in Iraq.
Peregraf records indicate that at least 16 people—including Peshmerga personnel and security officers—have been killed in these attacks, while approximately 70 others have been wounded.
The ministry expressed concern that expectations for a return to normalcy have not been met. “The Kurdistan Region and its citizens were expecting the normalization of the situation, but unfortunately, terrorists and outlaws—who cannot bear to see the peace and progress of our country—continue to sow chaos,” the statement said.
Reaffirming its position, the ministry stressed its support for peace and stability and urged all parties to halt such attacks. It called for an end to actions that threaten the security of Kurdistan and the well-being of its citizens.
