SDF Chief Mazloum Abdi Offers Condolences After Iranian Strike Kills Six Peshmerga in Erbil
Peregraf — Mazloum Abdi, Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), expressed condolences to the people of the Kurdistan Region following a deadly Iranian missile strike that killed six Peshmerga fighters in the Soran district of Erbil.
“I share the grief of our Kurdish people in the Kurdistan Region and the Peshmerga forces over the martyrdom of their heroes,” Abdi said in a statement. “We also extend our condolences to President Masoud Barzani, the leaders of the Region, and the families of the martyrs in their loss, and we wish a speedy recovery to the wounded.”
The remarks come after an early Tuesday attack in which, according to the KRG Ministry of Peshmerga, six Iranian ballistic missiles struck positions belonging to the Peshmerga forces in the Soran region. The attack targeted a headquarters of the 1st Sector’s 7th Infantry Division and a unit from the 5th Infantry Division.
Kurdistan Region officials said the strikes killed six Peshmerga fighters and injured around 30 others, marking a significant escalation and drawing strong condemnation from Kurdish leadership.
Authorities in the Kurdistan Region have described the attack as a violation of Iraqi sovereignty and the principles of good neighborliness, calling on Baghdad and the international community to take action to prevent further assaults.
The strike is among the deadliest recent attacks on Kurdish forces, prompting regional reactions and renewed concern over growing tensions spilling into the Kurdistan Region.
