Peregraf — A security source told Peregraf that at least eight drones have targeted communication towers on Zimnako Mountain in the Darbandikhan district of Sulaymaniyah province on Monday morning.

According to the source, the attacks began earlier in the day and were still ongoing as of 11:30 a.m., with multiple drones directed at telecommunications towers located on the mountain.

The source said the strikes have caused material damage to the towers, though the full extent of the damage has not yet been determined. The attacks appear to have specifically targeted communication infrastructure in the area.

No human casualties have been reported so far.

The attacks come amid a wider regional context in which Iran has severely restricted communications. With the start of the US-Israeli war against Iran, Iranian authorities suspended internet and communication services across much of the country and have not yet fully restored access.

Observers believe that some Kurdish residents inside Iran have been able to access limited internet services using Iraqi SIM cards through telecommunications towers located near the Iraqi border. Because of this, the towers on Zimnako Mountain have been seen as an important connection point for cross-border signals.

Iran appears determined to prevent people inside the country from accessing the internet by any alternative means as the conflict continues.
