Drone Attack Hits Sarsang Oil Field in Duhok; Production Halted, KRG Calls for Federal Action
Peregraf- The Kurdistan Regional Government’s Ministry of Natural Resources said a "terrorist attack" by outlawed groups targeted the Sarsang oil field in Duhok Province overnight, causing damage to the facility and forcing a suspension of production.
In a statement on Friday, the ministry said the field, operated by HKN Energy, was struck late at night, resulting in material damage that halted operations at the site.
The ministry strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a direct assault on the economic infrastructure and natural resources of the Kurdistan Region.
"Responsibility for this attack lies with the parties from whose areas of control these attacks are launched," the statement said, adding that such actions harm the Kurdistan Region and undermine the revenues of all of Iraq.
The ministry also called on the Government of Iraq to take urgent measures to prevent further attacks against civilians, critical infrastructure, and the oil and gas sector in the Kurdistan Region.
No group has immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
