Peregraf — The city of Erbil has been targeted by more than 70 Iranian missiles and drones, Iraqi officials confirmed, as the war between the United States and Israel against Iran is in its third day.
The development was disclosed during a phone call on Monday between Iraq’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Fuad Hussein, and UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, as both sides assessed the rapidly escalating regional situation.
Hussein stated that Iraq has become increasingly entangled in the conflict, facing attacks from multiple directions. He highlighted that Erbil has been heavily targeted, while other strikes have hit sites in southern and western Iraq, underscoring the growing geographic spread of the confrontation.
The Emirati minister noted that the United Arab Emirates has also come under intense fire, with approximately 800 missiles and drones launched toward its territory, many striking civilian locations. He stressed that such attacks lack justification and called for their immediate halt.
The escalation follows large-scale U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran, prompting Tehran to launch retaliatory attacks across the region, including missile and drone operations targeting Gulf states and Iraqi territory. The ongoing exchange has heightened fears of a broader regional war.
Iraq reiterated its position calling for an immediate ceasefire and urgent diplomatic efforts to contain the crisis, emphasizing the need to protect civilians and preserve regional stability.
Both sides agreed to continue coordination and dialogue to prevent further escalation and avoid a wider, more destructive conflict.
