Peregraf — A high-level Saudi trade and investment delegation visited Sulaymaniyah on Saturday to explore investment opportunities and strengthen economic ties with the Kurdistan Region.
Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Qubad Talabani said he met with the delegation, which was led by Mohammed Sulaiman al-Asiri, Saudi Arabia’s Consul General in the Kurdistan Region. The talks focused on investment prospects in the Kurdistan Region, with particular emphasis on Sulaymaniyah Governorate.
“I expressed my readiness, together with the local administration of Sulaymaniyah, to provide all forms of support and facilitation for Saudi investors,” Talabani said. He added that both sides stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation and coordination between the private sectors of Kurdistan and Saudi Arabia as a means to further develop economic and trade relations.
Later in the day, Sulaymaniyah Governor Dr. Haval Abu Bakr received the Saudi delegation, following an initiative and recommendation by Deputy Prime Minister Talabani. The delegation included senior officials from Saudi Arabia’s Ministries of Investment and Commerce, along with prominent business figures.
A joint meeting was subsequently held between the Sulaymaniyah local government, investors from Sulaymaniyah and across the Kurdistan Region, and the Saudi delegation. Discussions centered on the investment environment, available opportunities, and potential areas for joint ventures.
In remarks during the meeting, Consul General al-Asiri expressed Saudi Arabia’s readiness to engage in joint work and investment in Sulaymaniyah and the wider Kurdistan Region. He shared positive assessments of the city’s environment and highlighted several sectors he said were attractive for investment.
Governor Abu Bakr welcomed the delegation and thanked Deputy Prime Minister Talabani for facilitating the visit. He also expressed appreciation to Saudi Arabia for its engagement, underscoring Sulaymaniyah’s economic potential and investment-friendly climate. The governor reaffirmed the local administration’s commitment to providing all necessary support and facilities to Saudi investors.
