Peregraf — Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) President Masoud Barzani met on Friday in Erbil's Pirmam with Mazloum Abdi, Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), with a strong focus on safeguarding the rights of the Kurdish people in Syria in the coming stages within the framework of the constitution.

According to a statement from Barzani’s headquarters, the meeting, addressed the situation in Western Kurdistan (Rojava), the implementation of the agreement concluded between the Syrian government and the SDF, and broader political and security developments in Syria.

Barzani emphasized the necessity of commitment by all parties to the terms of the agreement and called for close coordination to ensure the protection and consolidation of Kurdish rights during the next phase of the Syrian process, particularly through constitutional guarantees.

The meeting came amid heightened diplomatic activity by the SDF leadership. A day earlier, Mazloum Abdi said talks with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot in Erbil focused on implementing the January 29 agreement, continuing the fight against ISIS, and securing detention facilities holding ISIS fighters and their families.

That meeting, held at the headquarters of the Kurdistan Region Presidency, was attended by Ilham Ahmed, Co-chair of the Department of Foreign Relations of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, and Rohlat Afrin, Commander-in-Chief of the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ).

In a post on X, Abdi said the Erbil talks placed special emphasis on protecting Kurdish regions and safeguarding Kurdish rights in Syria, as well as the full integration of military and security forces, including the YPJ. He added that the French foreign minister reaffirmed France’s support for fully implementing the agreement and for efforts aimed at stability and security in Syria’s Kurdish regions.
