Mazloum Abdi Says Talks with French FM Focus on Kurdish Rights, ISIS Fight and Security Integration
Peregraf- Mazloum Abdi, Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), said discussions with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot focused on implementing the January 29 agreement, the continued fight against ISIS, and measures to secure detention facilities holding ISIS fighters and their families.
The meeting Thursday at the headquarters of the Kurdistan Region Presidency in Erbil was also attended by Ilham Ahmed, Co-chair of the Department of Foreign Relations of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, and Rohlat Afrin, Commander-in-Chief of the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ).
In a post on X, Abdi said the meeting also placed special emphasis on protecting the privacy of Kurdish regions and safeguarding Kurdish rights in Syria. According to Abdi, the talks covered the full integration of military and security forces, including the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ).
Abdi added that the French foreign minister stressed the importance of fully implementing the agreement and reaffirmed France’s support for this phase, underlining Paris’s continued backing for stability and security efforts in Syria’s Kurdish regions.
