Peregraf — Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) President Bafel Jalal Talabani on Monday received a high-level delegation from Iraq’s Shia Coordination Framework in the Dabashan area of Sulaymaniyah, as political talks continue over government formation and the election of the President of the Republic.
The delegation included Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani, Badr Organization Secretary-General Hadi al-Amiri, Al-Asas Coalition leader Mohsen al-Mandalawi, and Coordination Framework Secretary-General Abbas Radhi.
According to a statement from Talabani’s office, the meeting—attended by PUK Vice President Rifat Abdullah, Shalaw Kosrat Rasul, and Political Bureau member Dr. Hawri Sheikh Daru—discussed political developments in Iraq and the wider region, emphasizing the need to overcome current political challenges.
The talks also focused on the formation of the new Iraqi government and the election of the President of the Republic. Both sides stressed the importance of adhering to constitutional timelines to complete legal procedures and move toward the establishment of a service-oriented government.
Earlier the same day, the Coordination Framework delegation met with Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) President Masoud Barzani in Pirmam, where discussions centered on the presidential file and government formation. Barzani emphasized that the post of President of the Republic is a Kurdish entitlement and called for establishing a clear and stable mechanism for electing the president to prevent recurring political deadlock.
