Sudani, Barzani Discuss Election of Iraq’s President to Complete Government Formation
Peregraf — Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani met on Monday with Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) President Masoud Barzani in Erbil, as political forces intensify discussions on electing the President of the Republic and completing the formation of the next government in line with parliamentary election results.
The meeting was attended by senior figures from the Shia Coordination Framework, including Badr Organization Secretary-General Hadi al-Amiri, Al-Asas Coalition head Mohsen al-Mandalawi, and Coordination Framework Secretary-General Abbas Radhi.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Media Office, the talks focused on upcoming constitutional entitlements, foremost among them the election of the President of the Republic, which is seen as a key step toward finalizing the government formation process in accordance with the outcomes of the parliamentary elections.
The meeting also addressed regional developments, particularly the situation in Syria. Participants stressed the importance of unifying Iraq’s national political discourse in responding to regional challenges in a way that strengthens the country’s position and protects its supreme national interests.
