Graham Says He Spoke With Trump on Protecting Kurds, Warns Against Violence in Northeast Syria
Peregraf — U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham said he recently spoke with President Donald Trump regarding the situation in Syria, stressing the need to protect America’s Kurdish allies and prevent renewed violence in the country’s northeast.
In a post on X, Graham said the Trump administration is actively engaged in efforts to stabilize Syria, noting that President Trump’s approach has begun to show results in the near term. He emphasized that neither the region nor the international community can afford another outbreak of violence targeting the Kurds, who have been key U.S. partners in the fight against ISIS.
Graham praised Secretary of State Marco Rubio for playing a direct role in diplomatic efforts aimed at replacing conflict with stability, and called on regional actors to reinforce Washington’s message against further fighting.
The senator said Congress stands ready to act to defend U.S. interests and push back against regional players who move against reliable allies such as the Kurds. He also highlighted Saudi Arabia as a country capable of influencing the Syrian government and urged it to use that leverage to help safeguard stability and Kurdish communities.
Graham concluded by thanking President Trump for his leadership, describing continued U.S. engagement as essential to protecting the Kurds and preventing a new bloodshed in northeast Syria.
