France, Germany, UK, and US Call for Full Adherence to Syria Ceasefire and Support Humanitarian Access
Peregraf – France, Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States issued a joint statement following a meeting of French Foreign Minister Jean Noël Barrot, UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, German Deputy Foreign Minister Serap Güler, and U.S. Special Envoy Tom Barrack, welcoming the 15-day extension of the ceasefire between Syrian Government Forces and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on 24 January.
The statement emphasized the urgent need for all parties to respect the ceasefire, exercise restraint, and work toward de-escalation. It also called for the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure, welcoming the establishment of humanitarian corridors in Kobane to ensure the safe delivery of aid and the resumption of basic services.
The partners highlighted the crucial role of regional actors, including Iraq, the Kurdistan Regional Government, the Syrian Government, and the SDF, in countering ISIS threats. They stressed the importance of swiftly reaching a permanent ceasefire and resuming negotiations to achieve a peaceful and sustainable integration of North-East Syria into a unified and sovereign state, in line with the 18 January 2026 agreement.
The statement also underscored the continued fight against ISIS, urging all parties to prevent security vacuums around ISIS detention centers. A meeting of the International Coalition against ISIS was agreed to address these security concerns.
Finally, the four countries reaffirmed their support for an inclusive political transition in Syria that protects the rights of all citizens. They emphasized that stabilizing North-East Syria through peaceful means is essential for preventing terrorism resurgence and maintaining regional security. International and regional partners are ready to support and monitor the implementation of agreements aimed at achieving long-term peace and inclusion.
