Peregraf — Shaswar Abdulwahid, the leader of the New Generation Movement, was released from prison on Wednesday in the city of Sulaymaniyah, according to local sources to Peregraf.

Abdulwahid was arrested by police at his residence in Sulaymaniyah on August 12, 2025, following a complaint filed by a former New Generation Movement member of parliament, who accused him of making threats. In connection with that case, a court sentenced Abdulwahid on September 2 to five months in prison.

Despite the ruling, Abdulwahid remained in custody due to several other legal cases filed against him. Authorities have not yet disclosed which of these cases were resolved or the legal basis for his release.

No official statement has so far been issued by judicial authorities or the New Generation Movement regarding the circumstances surrounding his release.
