Peregraf — In their New Year messages for 2026, senior Kurdish leaders Nechirvan Barzani and Qubad Talabani urged political forces in the Kurdistan Region to set aside differences, unify ranks, and open a new chapter focused on stability and cooperation.

Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani emphasized that unity is the cornerstone of protecting past gains and securing constitutional rights. “Our strength lies in mutual acceptance, coexistence, and collaboration,” he said, calling on all political forces and components to allow the spirit of harmony, forgiveness, and unity to prevail.

Barzani expressed hope that 2026 would mark an end to ongoing crises and open doors to prosperity and happiness, both within the Kurdistan Region and across Iraq. On relations with Baghdad, he said the New Year should bring a “fundamental resolution of issues based on the constitution and true partnership,” reiterating the Region’s readiness for dialogue and its commitment to peace and stability.

Addressing the people of Kurdistan, Barzani pledged continued efforts to improve living conditions and establish stability, highlighting confidence in the role of youth and public solidarity in building a better future.

Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government Qubad Talabani echoed the call for unity, stressing the need to learn from past disputes that have harmed the standing of the Kurds and the Kurdistan Region. “All parties must open a new chapter in the New Year,” he said, urging leaders to rebuild trust and reorganize the Kurdish home.

Talabani underlined that a unified Kurdish position is essential for resolving outstanding issues with Baghdad and defending the constitutional rights and demands of the people of Kurdistan. He expressed hope that 2026 would be a year of progress, development, and collective effort to serve the Region.
