Peregraf - A scheduled visit by Mazloum Abdi, commander-in-chief of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), to Damascus has been postponed until further notice, the SDF announced on Monday, citing unspecified “technical reasons.”

The visit, which was set to include a high-level negotiating delegation for talks with the Syrian government, was delayed due to logistical and technical arrangements, according to an official statement. The SDF said a new date would be agreed upon later through coordination among the relevant parties.

The statement stressed that the postponement does not signal a shift in dialogue or objectives, describing it as a procedural delay rather than a political one.

The delegation was expected to hold discussions on implementing a March agreement that outlines the integration of the SDF and the Kurdish-led administration in northeast Syria (Rojava) into Syrian state institutions.

On Thursday, Abdi said the SDF had reached a “mutual understanding” with Syria’s transitional authorities on the future status of the force and the Kurdish administration, emphasizing that any reconstituted Syrian state must be based on decentralized governance.

However, Syria’s foreign ministry said on Friday that talks had failed to produce concrete outcomes, accusing the dialogue of being used primarily for media messaging and to ease political pressure, while negotiations remain effectively stalled.

Disagreements continue over the implementation of the March accord, particularly regarding the future structure of the SDF. Kurdish negotiators are seeking to integrate the force as a unified entity, while Damascus favors incorporating SDF fighters individually into the regular Syrian army.
