Peregraf — The Iraqi Ministry of Oil announced that the gas investment project at the Nasiriyah and Al-Gharraf oil fields—designed to process an estimated 200 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (MMSCFD)—has entered an advanced execution phase, with operations scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2027.

In a statement from the ministry’s media office, the Deputy Minister for Gas Affairs confirmed that on-site installation of specialized equipment has officially started following the arrival of all required components. The project is being implemented in cooperation with the international company Baker Hughes, in line with directives from Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil, Eng. Hayyan Abdul-Ghani Al-Sawad.

Deputy Minister for Gas Affairs Ezzat Saber Ismail said the project is among the ministry’s highest-priority strategic initiatives, noting that the planned capacity will be brought online gradually in accordance with approved technical designs.

According to Ismail, the project will strengthen fuel supplies to the national electricity grid and support the overall stability of Iraq’s energy system. He added that work is progressing in line with the planned timetable, stressing the commitment of the Ministry of Oil and the South Gas Company to completing all technical and construction requirements ahead of the scheduled startup.

The deputy minister emphasized that the project will play a key role in reducing associated gas flaring, cutting environmental emissions, and improving the utilization of Iraq’s natural resources, with positive effects on the national economy, clean energy development, and the electricity sector.
