Peregraf — Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Sunday in Cairo, as part of an official visit aimed at strengthening political and economic ties between Egypt, Iraq, and the Kurdistan Region.
According to the official spokesperson of the Egyptian Presidency, President El-Sisi welcomed Prime Minister Barzani and reaffirmed Egypt’s full and continued support for brotherly Iraq, emphasizing the country’s unity and territorial integrity. He stressed Egypt’s solidarity with Iraq in confronting regional challenges, particularly terrorism, and praised the ongoing cooperation between Egyptian and Iraqi security agencies, as well as the efforts of the Iraqi federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government to promote stability and peace.
For his part, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani expressed the KRG’s appreciation for Egypt’s role, and for President El-Sisi’s support of Iraq, noting Egypt’s contribution to restoring security and stability in the region. He affirmed the Kurdistan Regional Government’s desire to further strengthen cooperation with Egyptian institutions across various fields.
The Egyptian presidency spokesperson, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, said the meeting also focused on economic cooperation between Egypt and Iraq, including the Kurdistan Region. President El-Sisi highlighted Egypt’s interest in expanding economic ties, pointing to the capabilities of Egyptian companies—particularly in the energy and infrastructure sectors—and their extensive experience domestically and internationally. He invited the KRG to benefit from Egyptian companies’ expertise in implementing high-quality projects at competitive costs.
Prime Minister Barzani welcomed the involvement of Egyptian companies in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, expressing his intention to engage with relevant Egyptian authorities during the visit to explore ways of enhancing cooperation and utilizing Egyptian expertise in several priority sectors for the KRG.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on regional developments, with President El-Sisi outlining Egypt’s vision for restoring security and stability in the region, while listening to Prime Minister Barzani’s assessment of the current situation.
The talks were attended by Major General Hassan Rashad, Director of Egypt’s General Intelligence Service; Rebar Ahmed, Minister of Interior of the Kurdistan Region; and Muhsin Kamal, Head of the Kurdistan Region’s Intelligence Agency.
Prime Minister Masrour Barzani arrived in Cairo on Saturday for an official visit, where he was received by Egypt’s Minister of Culture and other senior officials.
