Iraqi PM Orders Emergency Budget After Talabani–Al-Sudani Call on Chamchamal Flood Disaster
Peregraf - Ata Mohammed, head of the office of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG)’s Deputy Prime Minister, announced that DPM Qubad Talabani held a phone call with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani regarding the severe flooding that struck Chamchamal district on December 9.
According to Mohammed, Prime Minister Al-Sudani responded by instructing the Federal Minister of Finance to allocate an emergency budget to support the victims and address the extensive damage caused by the floods.
Chamchamal was the hardest-hit area in the latest wave of torrential rains. Two people lost their lives, and 12 others were injured as sudden floods swept through several neighborhoods. Dozens of homes and shops were inundated, while vehicles and government offices suffered substantial damage.
Local teams continue damage assessments as relief efforts expand with Iraqi federal and Kurdistan region coordination.
