Prime Minister Al-Sudani Meets Chevron Delegation to Discuss Oil Sector Cooperation

Peregraf - The Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani met today, Tuesday, with a delegation from the American company Chevron, headed by the company's Vice President Joe Koch, in the presence of the Minister of Oil and a number of advisers and officials from the oil sector.

The meeting focused on continuing discussions regarding investment in the Nasiriyah oil field and exploring potential cooperation in the West Qurna/2 field.

Al-Sudani stressed the importance of achieving tangible results from ongoing talks between the Ministry of Oil and Chevron. He highlighted that Iraq’s energy vision encourages collaboration with international companies and seeks their contribution to technology transfer and the development of Iraqi expertise.

He emphasized that Iraqi government cooperation with global companies prioritizes environmental considerations, alongside social benefits and urban development in areas surrounding oil fields. He added that Iraq is moving forward with plans to expand refining capacity and establish a petrochemical industry in Dhi Qar Province and other oil-producing regions.

For its part, the Chevron delegation affirmed its commitment to developing bilateral agreements and supporting the Iraqi government’s vision for Iraq to become a regional energy hub, while enhancing long-term cooperation to ensure the effective development of the oil fields.
