Peregraf- Head of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, received a delegation from the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) led by Qubad Talabani on Monday, where the two sides held detailed discussions on achieving consensus among Kurdish parties over a candidate for the Iraqi presidency. According to al-Maliki’s media office, the talks emphasized selecting a figure who enjoys broad national acceptance and contributes to political stability.

The meeting began with the PUK delegation congratulating al-Maliki on the success of the democratic process and the “advanced results” achieved by the State of Law Coalition in the recent parliamentary elections.

Both sides reviewed the latest political developments and ongoing dialogues among political forces as part of efforts to form the next federal government. They also exchanged views on managing the file of the three presidencies — President of the Republic, Prime Minister, and Speaker of Parliament — in a manner consistent with constitutional frameworks.

On the presidency specifically, the two parties discussed possible mechanisms to help Kurdish forces reach a unified position on a suitable candidate. The statement noted that such consensus would strengthen joint action and align with the expectations of the Iraqi people.
