Peregraf – A drone attack targeted the Khor Mor gas field in Chamchamal district, within the Sulaymaniyah administration, on Wednesday night, causing a fire in one of the field’s warehouses, a source at the site told Peregraf.

Gas production at Khor Mor has been suspended following tonight’s attack, and electricity generation will be affected.

Emergency crews at the field worked to contain the blaze, the source said, without providing details on casualties or the scale of the damage. Authorities have not yet issued an official statement.

The incident comes just two days after heightened alerts at Khor Mor, when a drone twice entered the field’s airspace and was fired upon before leaving the area without striking any facility. No damage was reported in that earlier incident.

Khor Mor, the largest gas field in the Kurdistan Region and a strategic site for power generation, has been repeatedly targeted by drones and missiles in recent years. The attacks have caused periodic shutdowns, operational disruptions, and in 2024 resulted in a deadly strike.

Tonight’s attack adds to growing concerns over the security of critical energy infrastructure in the Kurdistan Region, amid ongoing regional tensions and repeated warnings from operators about the need for stronger protection.
