Peregraf- According to preliminary results from the Iraqi parliamentary elections, the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) leads in the Kurdistan Region, followed by the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and the Kurdistan Islamic Union (Yakgirtu) in third place.
The Halwest (Stance) Movement has overtaken the New Generation Movement, emerging as the fourth largest force in the region, while the New Generation Movement has moved to fifth place.
In the Sulaymaniyah-Halabja electoral district, invalid votes accounted for a significant percentage, ranking second only after the PUK in terms of numbers.
Preliminary results indicate that of the 46 seats allocated to the Kurdistan Region, two are for quotas, while the remaining 44 seats are distributed among parties as follows:
• Erbil (15 seats): KDP 10, PUK 2, Halwest 2, New Generation 1
• Sulaymaniyah (18 seats): PUK 8, Halwest 3, New Generation 2, KDP 2, Yakgirtu 2, Kurdistan Justice Group (Komal) 1
• Duhok (11 seats): KDP 9, Yakgirtu 2
Overall, the preliminary seat distribution across the Kurdistan Region is: KDP 21, PUK 10, Halwest 5, Yakgirtu 4, New Generation 3, Komal 1.
Polling stations opened at 7 AM, and the voting process concluded at 6 PM across Iraq, marking the official close of the election day.
