Iraq Approves Winter Agricultural Plan, Boosts Seed Support to 60%

Peregraf- The Iraqi Council of Ministers has approved the 2025–2026 winter agricultural plan, which includes cultivating 1 million donums using surface water and 3.5 million donums with groundwater, and has also raised government support for certified seeds to 60%.

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani chaired the 44th regular session of the Council of Ministers on Tuesday, where the country’s general situation and items on the agenda were reviewed, resulting in several decisions, particularly in the agricultural sector.

According to the Prime Minister’s Media Office, the plan requires modern irrigation systems for all wheat cultivation. The Ministry of Trade will not receive wheat produced outside the approved agricultural plan.

Separately, the Cabinet amended Resolution 881/2025 to increase support for certified seeds supplied to farmers to 60%, in order to reduce production costs and encourage the use of certified varieties.
