Peregraf- Mark Savaya, U.S. President Donald Trump’s Special Envoy to Iraq, stressed that all weapons must be brought under the control of Iraq’s legitimate government, warning that there is no place for armed groups operating outside state authority, including those backed by Iran.

In an official statement, Savaya praised steps taken by Iraq’s leadership in recent years to strengthen political and economic stability, reduce external interference, and reopen markets to international companies. He said Iraq is “reemerging as a sovereign state,” but emphasized that the effort remains incomplete and continued support is needed.

Savaya warned that Iraq’s sovereignty, stability, and progress are at risk as long as non-state armed groups remain active, underscoring that unified security forces under a single chain of command are essential.

“The interests of the Iraqi people and the wider region depend on a fully sovereign Iraq, free from malign external interference, including from Iran and its proxies,” he said.

He stressed that cooperation between Baghdad and the Kurdistan Region is vital to ensuring long-term security, economic growth, and national cohesion.

Highlighting Iraq’s strategic role in the Middle East, Savaya said the country must not return to past instability or allow policies that undermine unity. He affirmed that his mission is to help Iraq continue on a path toward sovereignty and prosperity.

Savaya reaffirmed that Iraq remains a key U.S. partner and pledged to strengthen bilateral ties as he assumes his new role.

“MAKE IRAQ GREAT AGAIN 🇺🇸🇮🇶” he concluded.
