Peregraf- Iraq’s Ministry of Defense announced on Tuesday that it has received a new batch of advanced U.S. training aircraft, emphasizing their modern capabilities and ease of maintenance. Additional French-made aircraft are also expected to arrive in the coming days as part of Iraq’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its air fleet.

Major General Tahseen Al-Khafaji, Director of the Media and Moral Guidance Directorate, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that the aircraft delivered by the United States are highly sophisticated and widely used by the U.S. Army and Navy for pilot training.

"These aircraft are advanced in terms of training systems, onboard equipment, and the considerable support they provide," Al-Khafaji said. "They will enhance pilot training, sharpen operational skills, and are equipped with systems compatible with the aircraft Iraq plans to acquire in the future."

He added that one of their key advantages is ease of maintenance - a crucial factor when procuring any weapons system.

According to Al-Khafaji, a total of 15 aircraft have arrived so far, all flown to Iraq by Iraqi pilots and prepared by Iraqi technical teams before being transferred to the Army Aviation College.

The Ministry of Defense also confirmed that further deliveries are expected from France in the coming days. Four new French-made Caracal helicopters will join the fleet, in addition to two previously delivered, bringing the total to six this year. The number is expected to reach 14 next year.

Al-Khafaji described the Caracal helicopters as highly advanced, capable of performing major missions and operations.

Iraq’s recent acquisitions reflect broader efforts to upgrade its air capabilities, enhance pilot training, and diversify defense partnerships with both the United States and France.
