Peregraf- Nechirvan Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Region and Vice President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), said the upcoming Iraqi parliamentary elections, scheduled for November 11, are very important and historic, describing them as a stage for implementing the constitution in the Kurdistan Region.

Speaking during a campaign rally in Nineveh, Barzani called the province “a small Iraq and a major arena of competition,” noting that all Iraqi parties are struggling over this geographical boundary. He stressed that Nineveh is a very important area bordering the Kurdistan Region, and that some of its territories fall within the scope of Article 140 of the Iraqi Constitution.

“Today we are here for one message, which is that the KDP must be the number one party in Nineveh,” Barzani told supporters.

He attributed Iraq’s recent political and security complexities to the failure to implement the constitution, emphasizing that this failure has contributed to instability and mistrust among Iraq’s diverse communities.

Barzani also linked the rise of ISIS to “wrong policies that neglected the original people of Iraq,” recalling that in 2012, when demonstrations took place in Fallujah, “it was not ISIS; people were demanding services, but when they were ignored, violence ensued.”

He reiterated that genuine stability in Iraq depends on respecting and fully applying the constitution, adding that the upcoming November 11 election represents a critical opportunity to reaffirm the constitutional rights of the Kurdistan Region within a federal Iraq.
